  • Brookmill Park (Lewisham): 1 Grey Heron, 10 Mallard, 5 Moorhen 3 Black-headed Gull, 2 Herring Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 8 Woodpigeon, 1 Collared Dove, 1 Ring-necked Parakeet, 2 Grey Wagtail, 5 Wren, 10 Robin, 10+ Blackbird, 1 Garden Warbler (patch tick) 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Coal Tit, Blue, Great & Long-tailed Tit flock, 1 Magpie, 1 Carrion Crow, 6 Goldfinch, 6 Greenfinch.   • Hackney Marshes: 2 Willow warbler, 2 coal tit (unusual here) 15 sandmartins, 10 house martins, 50+ swift, mandarin duck on the river. also wasp spider in southern scrub. (Jamie Partridge)
  • Hampstead Heath: 0715-0900 lots of family groups of Blackcaps, many very recently fledged. Whitethroat & Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warblers on Pryors Field, Common Tern and 4 Swifts on Highgate Ponds. 41 species. (Sash Tusa) Kingfisher on Bird Sanctuary pond and Hobby hunting over Kenwood in late afternoon (C Bird)
  • Lower Chingford: 21 Green Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 2 Lapwing (James Palmer)
  • Rainham RSPB: 2 Wood Sandpipers Purfleet Scrape, visible from centre (RSPB). Also 5 Whimbrels, Whinchat, 4 Green Sandpipers, Hobby, up to 6 Little Egrets, 2 Greenshanks, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Linnets, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler (Alan Hobson).
  • Ruislip Lido & Poors Field: Common Sandpiper, 9 Common Tern (inc family group of 5), 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 adult & 2 young Bullfinch, Garden Warbler feeding 3 recently fledged young, Reed Warbler, Whitethroat & Blackcap (Steve Pash).
  • South Norwood Country Park: 1+ Hobby, Little Grebe with 2 large chicks, 2 Common Sandpipers, 4 Swallows (Paul Moss per JA).
  • Ten Acre Wood; juv Kestrel, Little Ringed Plover (construction area), 5 Stock Dove, 2 Green + 3 Great-spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, 2 Treecreepers , many Chiffchaffs, Rook (Neil Anderson)
  • Totteridge Valley: good raptor morning with 1 Hobby N, 2 Common Buzzards and a juv Sparrowhawk; also 7 Swifts and the usual suspects (John Colmans)
  • Watford (wooded scrub at western end of Cardiff Road): 2 Collared Dove, 2-3 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, male Bullfinch, several Six-spot Burnet; also 3 Least Carpet, 2 Short-cloaked Moth and Small Ranunculus in private garden early a.m. (D. McKenzie).
  • Wormwood Scrubs: M Sparrowhawk, Green Woodpecker and Great Spotted Woodpecker on Little Scrubs. Male Kestrel, c40 Swift, 4 Meadow Pipit, 3+ juv Chiffchaff, 3+ juv C Whitethroat on the main Scrubs (Charlie Farrell)

  • Redbridge Lakes and Roding Valley Park: Hobby [site tick for the lakes], Sedge Warbler, Sparrowhawk, at least 4 Whitethroats, 2 Blackcaps, a dozen Goldfinches, 2 Chiffchaffs, around 16 Swifts, Song Thrush (Alan Hobson).
  • Rotherhithe: juvenile Yellow-legged Gull by Hilton Hotel at low tide mid evening; Sand Martins still going in and out of nest hole near Old Salt Quay pub (Richard Bonser).
  • Staines Reservoir: in the evening, an adult Arctic Tern at the N basin, two Black-necked Grebes S basin and a juvenile Mediterranean Gull seen twice (Rob Innes, Ken Purdey).

  • St James Park (Yesterday evening): 1 of the Eastern (Great) White Pelicans dead, had operation on foot but died 2 days latter - name Resalka and used to sit on benches next to people.Pr juvenile Great-crested Grebes, 3 fresh broods Tufted Duck, 5 broods full grown Grey-lag Geese,3 fresh broods Mallard, Lesser-black Backed Gull trying to catch pigeons in flight, 1 Mute Swan no sign of breeding this year, some new Ruddy Shelduck released (Michael Mac).

  • Ruislip Lido: Common Sandpiper, Little Egret, 177 Coot, 10 Cormorant, 13 Pied Wagtail, the 3 fledged Common Tern are now flying with parents and 3 other adults (the 1st time Common Tern have bred at the Lido), 20+ House Martin, Song Thrush with 3 young (Steve Pash).

  • Brookmill Park (Lewisham) 6 am: 1 Heron, 7 Mallard, 5 Moorhen, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 10+ Woodpigeon, 3 Collared Dove, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Grey Wagtail, 5 Wren, 1 Dunnock, 8 Robin, 10 Blackbird, 3 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, Blue, Great & Long-tailed Tit flock, 3 Magpie, 1 Carrion Crow, 3 Greenfinch (Conrad Ellam).
  • Camberwell New Cemetery: Sparrowhawk, 3 Green Woodpeckers, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 5 Mistle Thrush and a flock of finchs up to 30 - green chaff gold. (terry)
  • Crayford Marshes: 1st year fem Red-footed Falcon flew south east from Rainham Marshes RSPB over the Thames then continued over Crayford Marshes at 08:25. (Kev Jarvis & Howard V). Also 2 Whimbrel, 2 Greenshank, 4 Common Sandpiper, 3 Yellow-legged Gull, 4 Chiffchaff (Kev Jarvis). Also 2 more Greenshank and 1 Sanderling; plus a bird I didn't identify - plain, sandy coloured (a featureless pipit or wheatear?) which briefly alighted on the ground in one of the fields on the left hand side of the lane walking towards the River Darrent (James Palmer).
  • Crossness: Very quiet (Whitethroat, Teal, 2 Kestrel, family of Reed Warblers) until an odd medium sized falcon flew over the Long Pool hawking. It had red underneath, some streaking, a steel grey back, hood and a loose gliding flight. Being familiar with the 4 UK falcons I have a suspicion this was a Red-Footed Falcon (new bird for me) as it was too small and lacked the scythe-like wings of a Hobby. I assume it was potentially the Crayford bird. Last seen flying ENE towards Rainham at 1800. (Oliver Bourne)
  • East Ham (E6): 3 Hobbies circlig high (P Fallan)
  • Hackney Marshes:(6.00-8.45) 3 Willow Warblers, 4 Swallows, plus very tame fem Mandarin near the bridge to the east marsh. (JP)
  • Hampstead Heath: Several Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Whitethroats, Goldcrests, Greenfinches, Nuthatches, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers as well as large mixed tit flocks (C Bird). Yesterday: 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 6 Kestrels, pr Common Whitethroat 2nd clutch nest as feigning injury flight in brambles, where it seems someone had flattened area of brambles - Kenwood Wood Pond Little Grebe with 3 chicks + Dave Porritt, Model Boating Pond area - 1 Common Tern (Michael Mac).
  • Little Britain Lake: 2 pr Great Crested Grebe (2y & 3y), 1 Kingfisher. (Roger Dewey)
  • Lonsdale Road Reservoir (Barnes): 1 Little Grebe, 2 Teal, 4 Gadwall, familys of Pochard and Tufted Duck, 2 Common Tern, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, family parties of Reed Wabler, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Goldcrest (John Gordon).
  • Redbridge Lakes and Roding Valley Park: Common Tern [which after a while caught a fish in a spectacular dive, and retreated with it in the direction of Walthamstow, thus showing the fishermen how to do it!], 3 Whitethroats, 8 Swifts, 3 Chiffchaffs, half a dozen Goldfinches, up to 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (Alan Hobson).
  • Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park: Goldcrest still singing Sanctuary Wood, also Brown Argus Linden Graves last week (1st record >10 years per Terry Lyle) (Bob Watts).
  • Uxbridge: 4 Wood Duck, f or eclipse on bank of R Frays at Rockingham Rec. Ground. (Roger Dewey)
  • Vicarage Farm, Enfield: 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 09:40 hrs (Robert Callf).

  • Hemans Estate Community Garden/Stockwell: [Butterfly Count] at Midday - 1 Speckled Wood, 1 Large White, one that closest resembled High Brown Fritillary? no birds present apart 1 Blackbird (Michael Mac). I would have though High Brown extremely unlikely unless some have been released as this rare UK butterfly has its nearest populations in Devon. A Silver-washed or even Dark Green would be more likely. How did you see it- settled or inflight? (Neil Anderson) Thanks I agree with you - I saw it in flight and then alighted with wings closed, I had a book with me and it was not Comma or Painted Lady - it had those patterns of the Fritillary - no eyes or dot type markings - it was very fast and ended up on an outhouse roof in ivy and I was unable to make further judgement of what it was. Hi, PFM (I'm sorry, I don't know your name) - I haven't seen any Caspian Gulls on the gantry or at Staines Res on recent evenings or indeed this year so far. Any chance someone with a camera could post some photos, so that others know what to look out for? Thanks for any help - Rob Innes. In the evening, nine or ten Mediterranean Gulls seen, an exceptional showing also noted at Queen Mother Res (per CDRH): five adults, two second-summers, one or two first-summers and a juvenile; also two drake Common Scoter on the N basin, presumably the ones seen at Queen Mother earlier, plus two adult Black-necked Grebes still on the S basin (Rob Innes, Ken Purdey).

  • Oakwood Park, N14: 3(pair, nest-building and one juvenile) Little Grebe, Conservation Pond; 2 Siskin - unseasonal, but not unprecedented! 2 White-letter Hairstreaks and several Purple Hairstreaks (Robert Callf).
  • Pinner Park Farm: Hobby calling persistantly - may have involved more than just the one bird I saw, 1 Little Owl, 9 Mistle Thrush, 4 Whitethroat, 3 House Martin, Swallow, 9 Swift & 2 Grey Heron (Jon Ridge).
  • Richmond Park: Black Redstart, juv in Holly Lodge horse paddocks. Flycatching in evng. (Tim Howard per FJM)
  • South Norwood Lake: Mute Swan, Great Crested Grebe (+2 juv) 2 Cormorant, c20 Tufted Duck, 1 Swallow, c20 Common Swift, 1 Green Woodpecker, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Nuthatch, 6 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 1 Stock Dove, 8 Ring-necked Parakeet, 12+ Long-tailed Tit, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, 3 House Sparrow, (John Watson & Gavin Hawgood)
  • Totteridge Valley: single Raven high above Ellern Mede Farm sheep fields at 10:15 for 5 mins, before it headed off NW. Also Kingfisher, Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Linnet, Lapwing. (Ian Ellis)
  • Woodlands Farm, Epping : Barn Owl, Swallows+fledglings, Song Thrush, lots of singing Chiffchaffs, Yellowhammer, Whitethroats+fledglings, Pied wagtail+fledgling, Blackcaps+fledglings, and a White Ermine moth being attacked by a wasp. (DWH)

  • Alexandra Park: Willow Warbler starting a lot of singing with Chiff notes Cricket scrub but no sign of yesterday's Reed Warbler, also 3+ Purple Hairstreak in oaks/ashes along Racetrack, 2 Common Terns heading north from Wood Green Res, several Black-headed Gulls passing through the res in past week, and nearby Swift and House Martin nesting in and under eaves of same house opposite bus stop Priory Road (Bob Watts).
  • Brent Reservoir: Green Sand, 7 Lapwings & 2 LRPs (Brent Birders) 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Tree Pipit and 1 Lesser Redpoll (William G)
  • Brookmill Park (Lewisham) 1 Heron, 10 Mallard, 5 Moorhen, 4 Coot, 6 Woodpigeon, 1 Stock Dove, 5 Wren, 3 Dunnock, 4 Robin, 10 Blackbird, 1 Song Thrush, 4 Blackcap, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Great Tit, 1 Magpie, 3 Carrion Crow, 4 Goldfinch, 4 Greenfinch. (Conrad Ellam)
  • Fulham: 1 Red Kite W around 4pm (Nathalie Mahieu).
  • Lonsdale road; 1 shoveller, 10 Gadwall, family of pochard with 5 young. 1 common tern, 1 kingfisher, 1 lesser spotted woodpecker, singing reed wablers, chiffchaffs and blackcaps, 1 greenfich and small flock of goldfinches.(j Gordon)

  • Staines Reservoirs: 2 Black-Necked Grebes, summer plumage (South Basin) & "2nd summer" Caspian Gull, on KGVI Gantry, visible from West End of Causeway, from 0830 - 09.00 at least. (A.Luscombe)
  • Totteridge Valley: Grasshopper Warbler reeling this evening at 21:00, also Tawny Owl and 10+ pipistrelle sp. at Darlands Lake (Ian Ellis).
  • Walthamstow Village E17: 1 Little Egret headed north east at 2015. (David Lindo & Penny Hayhurst).

  • Alexandra Park: Both Willow Warbler and Reed Warbler singing in Cricket Scrub, plus Common Tern on reservoir; c10 Black-headed Gulls north pm (David Callahan).
  • Battersea Park Lake: Little Grebe and 4 chicks, 1 summer Black-headed Gull, pr Egyptian Geese still have 9 young, Red-crested Pochard duck still has 2 young, pr Mute Swans 3 cygnets, last evening pr Common Terns diving in same area, drake Shoveler in eclipse - unusual for this time of year (Michael Mac).
  • Blackheath: The Dips - 3 juvenile Chiffchaffs being fed by at least 1 adult (Joe Beale and Yu-Hsuan Lin).
  • Brent Reservoir: Green Sand, Redshank, 3 Lapwings & LRP (Andrew Self), same plus 1 Common Sand, 2 LRP, 3 adult Lapwing & 1 juvenile (Roy Beddard)
  • Crayford Marshes: 3 Hobby, 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, Corn Bunting, Little Ringed Plover, Little Egret. (Kev Jarvis).
  • Greenwich, Banning Street: a flooded riverside building site near Enderby Wharf had 2 Sand Martins and 1 Pied Wagtail, plus 2 Foxes this evening (Joe Beale).
  • Headstone Moat: 1 Little Grebe was slightly unusual (JR).
  • River Pool,.Catford: Little Egret.heron.grey wagtail.2 whitethroat.3 blackcap.3 moorhen not one mallard along the whole river could it be a mink ? (Tom & Terry).
  • Isle of Dogs: Pair of Great Black Backed Gull with 3 chicks at same location as last year, 10+ House Martin, 2 Swift, Common Tern, plus Small Tortoiseshell, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Speckled Wood, Small/Essex Skippers, Red Admiral plus many Whites and Blues! (Richard Harrison).
  • Forest Gate: Kingfisher (north) over my flat (a surprised Nick Croft)
  • Fulham Reach: Red Kite W 18:05 (Nathalie Mahieu).
  • Pinner Park Farm: 3 Little Owl (two juveniles noted), 4 Whitethroat, 18 Swift, 6 Swallow, 2 House Martin & 12 Goldfinch (Jon Ridge).
  • Staines Reservoirs: 2 Black-Necked Grebes, summer plumage, South Basin. 1 Sandwich Tern, over causeway & South Basin in SE direction 08.20 (A.Luscombe).
  • Tower Hamlets Cemetery: pair of Collared Doves north over Scrapyard Meadow (scarce here), also lots of Large and Small Skippers (no Essex amongst ones I got close views of), House Martin, and several Swifts in vicinity mostly near Mile End tube (Bob Watts).
  • Trent Park:Common Tern, Mandarin(f), Common whitethroats (s), Blackcap(s), Chiff(s), 2 Green Woodpecker,10 Common Swift. c20 Ringlet, 1 Marbled White ( first ever seen at this site), Comma, Large White(s), Small White(s).( Pete Lowman).
  • Walthamstow Filter Beds: Grey Wagtail, Sand Martins. 3 Red Admirals, 3 Small Skippers, 2 Meadow Browns, f Common Blue (resembling mariscolore ssp). Banded Demoiselle (Dan Barrett)
  • Wandsworth Road at Vauxhall: Herring Gull chick visible on chimney stack [near by] (Michael Mac).
  • Wanstead Flats: Willow Warbler plus 4 fledglings, 2 Grey Heron (Nick Croft)
  • Wanstead Park: Sparrowhawk male carrying nesting material, 2 Great Crested Grebe, pr Bullfinch, Little Egret, 9 House Martin, 1 Sand Martin, 2 juv Swallow (Nick Croft)
