By posting news here you agree that your reports may be added to the LNHS database for use in the London Bird Report. A scalable map of the London recording area can be found here. Please list sightings alphabetically by site, following our standard format to assist automatic compilation of records into the database. Only report sightings of wide interest rather than listing all common birds but DO NOT post details of nesting by scarce breeding birds (those included in Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, as amended). Any such reports will be removed; please submit them instead to the appropriate LNHS bird recorder. More London bird news can be found on Twitter by searching for sightings from many different observers using the #londonbirds hashtag or by visiting the London Bird Club page (no Twitter account is necessary for either). To join the London Bird Club and support our work please visit the LNHS website. The 2014 London Bird Report is now out - to get a copy please click here If anyone would like to post their more general sightings then please feel free to add them to Samuel's sightings.

Weir Wood Res Black winged Stilt: I was looking at a map of the recording area and the NE corner of Weir Wood Res is shown as being within it. This is where the stilt was on 12/04 earlier this year. It didn't show up the sightings page so I didn't want it to get missed as a London record (Matt Palmer). The Google map has been corrupted and is no longer centred on St Paul's, see correct area. (A. Ok thank you, I have edited my report to take out the less interesting species and added them to a page called Samuel's sightings. I have also got other reports from today on there that if anyone feels are of interest can be put on this page. Also if anyone would like to put their more general sightings on the page please feel free. (SL) - I can understand the omission of very common species, but don't leave the contributor feeling humiliated & about one inch tall (JR). No one was trying to humiliate anyone, Jon. My own contribution was simply to advise Samuel that he could set up a specific page for his own sightings, and I am glad to see that he has done so. Other London birders could follow his example (AH). One has to remember that this is the London area and relatively common birds make up the majority of sightings. I mean, we're hardly in the position to be able to report birds like Cory's Shearwaters are we? - er, one last week?(JR) - okay, let's not let this get out of hand, I just felt Sam (who clearly enjoys his birding), was being ridiculed by having his own 'special needs' page (JR). Hi Jon, thank you for you concern. I have to admit I may have over used this page a bit before. I have created my page as you can see from above, but this time for people to record any sighting that they have seen so that they don't come under the same critic as I did. Thank you to FS who was the first person to add a sighting to the page today that wasn't me. I look forward to see many more hassle free posts on the page. Thank you again Jon (SL) Interesting comments. Adds a human touch to mere reports. After all, we all have our reasons for birding. I think the Cory S reference was a tongue in cheek joke. Staggering find.
