• Oak Hill Woods LWT NR, East Barnet, EN4: LWT / RSPB Woodpecker Watch - Great Spotted Woodpecker juvenile at nest hole (site 2 lower), Green Woodpecker at nest hole, Tree Creepers regularly visting nest behind bark, Nuthatch juvenile in nest hole, Blackcap nest with four chicks hatched yesterday, Bullfinch calling, Sparrowhawk overhead, plus Silver-washed Fritillary, (Bob Husband).

• Battersea Park Lake: 1 Swallow, Chiffchaff fledged from nest found yesterday in single clump of bracken by busy path, lead to by adults taking food, female Red-crested Pochard still has 2 ducklings, pr Mute Swan with 3 cygnets, 4 broods Moorhen, pr Egyptian Geese etc etc (Michael Mac).

• Staines Reservoirs: yesterday's two immature Arctic Terns still at the N basin in the evening, also a 2CY Little Gull (Rob Innes, Ken Purdey).
• Watford (Cardiff Road): singles of Lesser Whitethroat and Common Whitethroat (both singing) (D. McKenzie).
• Wanstead Flats: Red Breasted Goose (plastic fantastic on Alex), Mute Swan (6 cygnets), C Goose (20+ gossers), Greylag Goose (4 gos), c. 20+ Herring Gull and Lesser Black-backed Gull in early morning roost (c. 05:00), 2 Heron, Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Swallow, 2 Sand Martin, 10+ House Martin, 30+ Swift, Sparrowhawk. Also a Carrion Crow that for some reason landed in the middle of Alex having to flap its wings like oars to get back to land, while a Coot attempted to drown it. It in turn being harried by 2 further Carrion Crow (Nick Croft, Stuart Fisher)
• Wanstead Park: 1-2 Spotted Flycatcher (in flight over Shoulder of Mutton into Reservoir Wood), Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (calling), 3 Little Egret, Reed Warbler, Willow Warbler, 3 Sand Martin, Swallow, House Martin, Swift, Grey Wagtail, 10+ Stock Dove, m. Sparrowhawk (Nick Croft, Stuart Fisher).

• Staines Reservoirs: three Arctic Terns present N basin late afternoon (10+ in the morning, per Andrew Moon), one a 2CY bird, possibly the one seen at Island Barn Res yesterday (per Dave Harris), one a 3CY type and one an adult. Otherwise quiet, but two Turnstones flew round at 1710hrs (Rob Innes).

• Cassiobury Park: female Mandarin Duck with a single duckling, juvenile Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker attending young at nest-hole, at least 2 Blackcap, singing Chiffchaff, singing Goldcrest, singing Treecreeper; also several Banded Demoiselle (D. McKenzie, Joanne Biscomb).
• Crayford (Barnes Cray): Thames Road Wetland - Reed Warbler (estimate at least 12 individuals), male Blackcap (first personal record for site), Whitethroats, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Goldfinch. River Cray, By-way 105 - reed Warblers, pair of Tufted Duck, 2 Mute Swans, 2 juvenile Blue Tit, Great Tit, 1 Collared Dove, Song Thrush, Blackbirds, Robin, 1 Greenfinch, male Blackcap, 1 Chiffchaff heard, nesting Coot, 6 Ring-necked Parakeet. • Plaistow E13: 2x Ringneck Parakeets - still very unusual over here (P Fallan)

• Ray Park: Little Egret (Redbridge Birdwatching)
• Richmond/Mortlake: large long-winged raptor seen without optics from Sainsbury's car park (Manor Road) at 8.25pm. The bird was very low, not much above the rooftops, and in serious trouble with crows - closely surrounded by them. Most likely a Red Kite, but my first thought, when the bird was closer, was Osprey (unlikely though that might be, this late in May). Last seen heading roughly NE, probably over the Mortlake cemeteries. I hope the bird survived - a few years ago Steve Reed picked up a Kite in Richmond Park, its neck broken. That bird was nowhere near a road, and my guess was that it had collided with a tree when hounded by crows. (Stefan Czapski)

• Chipping Ongar: Red Kite drifted north over A414 08:00 (Birdguides).

• Hemans Estate Community Garden - Stockwell: on lack of activity at nest box - inspection revealed 4 dead half-grown Blue Tit chicks and 3 eggs - according to a witness a cat has climbed the tree and caused the birds to desert - this also occured last year, 2 Blackbird fledglings, yesterday pr Magpies mobbing the cat at about 4 metres (Michael Mac).
• London Wetland Centre: Gadwall brood, Little Grebe brood, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 21 Lapwing, Common Snipe, 4 Redshank, 16 Common Tern, 100+ Swift, 30+ House Martin, 2 Common Whitethroat, Garden Warbler (LWC website).
• Mile End: 12+ Swift low north after heavy storm 1630 (Bob Watts).
• Northaw Great Wood: 2 Green Woodpecker, 5 Great Spotted Woodpecker nest-holes with young calling, 2 Song Thrush, 1 singing male Garden Warbler, 2 singing male Willow Warbler, 2 adult Coal Tit, 9 Treecreeper, including four singing, 5(female and four juvs) Chaffinch (Robert Callf).

• Alexandra Park: Sand Martin Wood Green Res am (Andrew Gardener).
• Belair Park - Dulwich: Juvenile Great-spotted Woodpecker in hole, pr Mandarin - male calling from hole in a chestnut tree, 1 Blackcap, Blue Tit in public utility possibly vandalised but not 100% sure as could have fledged before nest wrecked (Michael Mac).
• Barnes Riverside towpath: Hobby high over West, Lesser Whitethroat, Cetti's Warbler, Little Egret low West. Loads of Blackcap, Whitethroat, Sand Martin. (Mark H)
• Crystal Palace Park Lake: up to 5 Swifts, Grey Herons fledged, Great-crested Grebe on 2 eggs, pr Herring Gulls, pr Grey-lags and not much else of real interest, but nice to see Coot chicks playing in the mud - earlier on Sparrowhawk carrying prey a long way from the park in Dulwich direction (Michael Mac).

• London Wetland Centre: White Stork north 09:05, Sparrowhawk, 3 Common Whitethroat (LWC website).
• Pinner Park Farm: 1 Nuthatch, Green & Great Spotted Woodpecker, Whitethroat, 6 Canada Goose goslings still & at least 5 Coot chicks after four weeks, 2 Grey Heron, 4 Swallow & 11 Swift - one of which was seen dive bombing what turned out to be a feather as it fell from the sky (JR).
• Scadbury Park, Chilsehurst. 5 Crossbill arrived 15.00. Landed in an old cherry tree 200m east of the old cottages giving good views before flyning off into the woods. Grasshopper Warbler still present near the Tree Centre, also 2 singing Lesser Whitethroat (Charlie Carpenter)

• Battersea Park Lake: late pm - pr Swifts (yrs 1st here) added on 26th May, seen from road just before dusk and about 25 - 30 Swifts feeding over trees, pr Red-crested Pochard with 2 ducklings first ever breeding attempt here I think -correct me if I'm wrong, Little Grebe on 4 eggs, Great-crested Grebe seem to have dissapeared? 1 Egyptian Goose - waiting for the eggs to hatch? 1 male Goldcrest, 3+ singing Blackcap, Peregrine Falcon (Michael Mac).
• Battersea Bridge: 1 adult great black backed gul on the fore shore pm, Kestrel hunting, also fem peregine over. (Jamie Partridge)

• River Lee Country Park: Langridge - Although the islands are overgrown, the water levels have recently dropped sufficiently to allow some muddy edges around the scrape, which is attracting waders; 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Redshank, 3 Little Ringed Plover & several Lapwing, also Shelduck, Cetti’s Warbler & Lesser Whitethroat. Goosefield - Pink-footed Goose still there. Hall Marsh - 3 Little Egrets, Cuckoo, Cetti’s Warbler & Little Grebe with recently hatched young. • Sainsbury's Nine Elms: female Kestrel at 8:20am - they seem to have abandoned sites used for last 17 years or more (Michael Mac).
• Staines Res: in the morning, Slavonian Grebe in breeding plumage N basin (presumably the one seen earlier this spring); also Great Northern Diver on S basin and flying around early morning, Oystercatcher, single Ringed and Little Ringed Plover, four Dunlin, one Common Sandpiper (Rob Innes, Bob Warden). & Whitethroat, showing well, in parking layby on A3034, 06.45 and still at 08.40 (A.Luscombe). Little change in the evening, but the Slavonian Grebe was giving superb photo opportunities just off the N causeway bank about half-way along - could be worth a look tomorrow for DSLR fans (Rob Innes).
• Totteridge Valley: 1 Cuckoo - according to dog walkers present since 9 May at least: six singing warblers; Garden Warbler (1): Willow Warbler (1): Lesser Whitethroat (1): double-figure scores for Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Whitethroat. • Barnet Lane, Barnet, Herts EN5: 06.45 2 Whimbrel flew low east along the Dollis Brook, they appeared to be pitching down on Barnet Playing Fields but we could not relocate. "Tittering" flight call subsequently heard but birds not seen again. 4 Chiffchaff singing, Common Whitethroat singing, 5 Blackcap singing. (R. A. • Rainham Marshes RSPB: 1 Whimbrel and 4 Common Sandpipers at Stone Barges, flock of 50+ Bar Tailed Godwits flew along Thames with a breakaway party trying to land for about 15 mins on Aveley Marsh, 2 Greenshanks and 6 Avocets - Target Pools, 15 Swifts and 5 Hobbies over Wennington Marsh, 4 Teal and pair of Wigeons - Aveley Marsh, 7 Bar Tailed Godwits and 3 Whimbrels - Purfleet scrape, singing Lesser Whitethroats and Willow Warbler - Cordite plus usuals (eg garden/woodland birds before anyone asks) (Ian Bradshaw)
• Regent's Park: Hanover Bridge area - Swift over (1st of year for me) singing Reed Warbler. Wildfowl Enclosure - 3 broods of Red-crested Pochard a 3, 6, 10, 1 of 3 Mallard also male Kestrel (Michael Mac). also seen 2 Arctic Terns, pr Common Terns, Common Sandpiper, pr Wheatears, Yellow Wagtail, Meadow Pipit, 4 Jackdaws (Tony Duckett).
• Sewardstone Marsh: Garden Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Whitethroats, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Willow Warbler [so 6 species of warbler, and heard two more], Sand Martins, Goldfinch (Alan Hobson).
• South Norwood Lake: Hobby, 1 Common Swift, pair Mute Swan, pair Great Crested Grebe, 12 Tufted Duck, 2 Greylag Goose, 2 House Martin, 4 Song Thrush, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Long-tailed Tit, Ring-necked Parakeet, 1 singing Willow Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 6 Chiffchaff, 1 Ciommon Whitethroat, 1 Pied Wagtail, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, c6 House Sparrow, 3 Stock Dove, 1 Collared Dove, (John Watson,Gavin Hawgood & Ernie Thomason)
• Springwell Lake nr Harefield: Hobby, 20 plus Swift, Garden Warbler, 2 Reed Warblers, Whitethroat, Blackcap, 3 Common Terns.
• Staines Reservoir: Great Northern Diver, 11 Little Gull, Marsh Harrier > north, Common Buzzard, Greenshank, Turnstone, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Whimbrel, Yellow Wagtail; also an aberrant Swift with lots of white on belly and upperparts, maybe a bird seen in previous years (REI,KLP). In the evening, three flocks of Bar-tailed Godwits flew E or NE - c35, 17 and c30 (plus two Grey Plovers); also Slavonian Grebe still present plus two Oystercatchers (Rob Innes). • Surbiton: possible Red-rumped Swallow north at 10.30 (MG per A Self)
• Ten Acre Wood / Sharvel Lane: 2 Pheasant, 2 Hobby, m Kestrel, 3 Lapwing, 6 Stock Doves, 2 Swift, 2 Pied Wagtail, 7 Swallow (breeding pr at stables), 3 Sand Martins, (possible Greenland-bulky looking) Wheatear on earth mound, 11 Blackcap, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, pr Jay, 12+ Jackdaw, several Rooks in / out of wood (c8 birds), 3 male Reed Bunting on territory , Linnet (Neil Anderson).
• Tyttenhanger GPs: Raven over 11:48; also Red-legged Partridge, Greenshank, 4 Common Tern, good numbers of hirundines, seven species of warbler including 2 singing Garden Warbler and 3 singing Willow Warbler, 2 Tree Sparrow - many thanks to Joan Thompson (D. McKenzie, Joanne Biscomb).
• Wanstead Park: pair of Reed Warbler (SoM), 4 Swift east, drumming Lesser Spotted Woodpecker near the Dell, 2 singing Willow Warbler, singing Coal Tit, 5 Stock Dove, Sparrowhawk, Swallow NW (S Fisher).
• Wanstead Flats: Yellow Wagtail on football pitch then off NE, singing Garden Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Swift east, 5 Swallow (2 NW, 1 SE and 2 West), 2 male Reed Bunting, Willow Warbler (S Fisher).
