Saturday 31st JulyEdit

  • Alexandra Park: unidentified (in the pouring rain) warbler in bushes on south eastern boundary of cricket field, then flew into trees nearer WG reservoir - looked like a Phylloscopus type, distinctly grey and making a monosyllabic contact call. (James Palmer). Assuming the contact call was the standard 'Hewit', then it sounds like a Chiffchaff (JR). I am sure it wasn't a Chiffchaff - the contact call wasn't the standard 'Hewit' and the bird was greyer and longer than a Chiffchaff (JP). Then you have clearly found something more interesting - good luck (JR). I went back in the sunshine and the same bird was in the same place - and I think it might have been a Chiffchaff. But it was very grey. My apologies to everyone and my thanks to JR (James Palmer). Thanks for going back & reviewing the bird, no apologies necessary (JR).
