  • Rainham Marshes: Short-eared Owl, Dartford Warbler (BirdGuides); 3-4 Short-eared Owls, c15 Stonechats, at least 5 Cetti's Warblers heard, 2 Water Rails heard (Wendy Marks) - photos and waffling on my blog Missed the SEOs but saw the Dartford Warbler. Didn't count the Cetti's but there were probably 10 or more. Heard Bearded Tits three times near the butts but no sign of the little beauties. Nice to see a few waders (incl. Dunlin and Golden Plover) but just one Snipe seen and another heard. Male Marsh Harrier and Buzzard (Martin Honey)
  • Redbridge Lakes: up to 3 Cetti's Warblers (at least 2, as saw 2 together) - seen, not just heard. First year they have been here. Also 2-3 Water Rails (one showing very well, and swimming), 2-3 Snipe, 2 Reed Buntings, Redpoll, Ring-necked Parakeet, 3 Long-tailed Tits, 3 Goldfinches, Green Woodpecker. Also dragonflies still flying - common darters and hawkers (Alan Hobson).
  • Richmond Park: Whitethroat - Sawyer's Hill, 3 Stonechat (H.Bradshaw); Pen Ponds area - 32 Greylag over, 10 Egyptian Goose, 2 Teal, 12 Wigeon, 35 Gadwall, 35 Mandarin, 3 Red-crested Pochard, 20 Pochard, Buzzard, 60 Common Gull, Kingfisher, 510 Woodpigeon S, Skylark heard over, Grey Wagtail, 16 Meadow Pipit, 8 Stonechat - extra birds so 11 total for north half of park, Mistle Thrush 5 over, 31 Fieldfare SE, 3 male Blackbirds in isolated hawthorns in grassland, 800 Starling SW/W, 2 Reed Bunting (J.Wilczur)

  • Wanstead Flats: Pale Buzzard sp with broad white tail band being harried by crows distantly over Coronation Copse (as seen froom the Alex maybe up to half a mile away!) rubbish pics here http://wansteadbirding.blogspot.co.uk/ (comments welcomed) - The trouble with the larger raptors is the fact that they are all constantly in transitional plumage, so no two birds are the same...It looks like an immature Common Buzzard to me (JR). Last week at Sydenham Hill Wood there was 1 brave parakeet persuing a Buzzard (Michael Mac).

  • Harvil Rd, South Harefield. 11 Stonechat in fields ( 4 south of road, 7 north of road.) An amazing count and maybe one of the highest ever for the London area outside of the Thames Marshes and Staines Moor ?. Presumably passage birds and in over forty years of birding in this area I have never seen more than two birds here ! (John Edwards). This area is not Harefield Moor as mentioned yesterday.(DP). the historic Harefield Moor was lost under Broadwater Gravel pit many years ago. These fields part of Park Lodge Farm.
